To Start A New Era So Fine

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

Here’s how we spent Inauguration Day 2009. First, with Mimosas in hand webcasting live at Marc Horowitz’ www.talkshow247.com up on Victorian Carol Street and then into the gentility of The Canyon with Ari and Petro for coffee and DVR’ing the speech. Everything about this inauguration is so Now! I jumped up in front of the wide screen as the Obama’s and Bush’s stood shoulder to shoulder and I pointed out, “See here, these people are younger than Sting!”

Me and a couple of my new HEROS.

Dustin Lance Black and Cleve Jones. Angel face Black wrote the new floor-you history-pic, Milk, and Cleve was the real deal dude there off the corner of Castro running Harvey Milk’s campaign back in the 70′s. These guys are doing real, tangible amazing things, well earning all the celebrating their currently getting. Black framed one hell of an American tragedy and really got right what it means to have politics guide you and to liberate yourself so much that you begin to hum and give off that glow called LEADERSHIP. What a miraculous man that Harvey Milk was, and Cleve Jones was right there with him. And he’s continued on through a life of hugely affirmative, progressive activism. He founded the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt and has been a lifelong loud voice speaking out against the silence that kills integrity and individuality. Here are a couple serious insiders, one inside Hollywood, one inside Lefty politics, each at this juncture in history bringing the importance and pizazz and power of their forte’s to the other’s world. And in that juncture, we all win. These are the celebrities that turn me on.

3 Cheers to Pops’ Good Health

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

Having had a full look inside today, from both ends, Pops reports a clean bill of health. This is powerful good news as the big C stays three years now at bay. He had been uptight about going in, having put The Look off for too long. But today’s look sees nothing but throat and guts and that’s what we want. It’s worth noting that this fine man is a living example of how well socialized medicine – Medicare – works in this country. His biggest expense in the whole ordeal of beating cancer was parking. Single payer, the US Government, health care has added many fine years to my father’s life, and all without bankrupting him. This is yet again a bit of the wiggle room in the rational thought that guides our capitalist society, along with nationalizing banks, car companies, etc….. And all the while we of the richest country do get quite sick and all too often that means we get poor and die. Here’s an interesting article about a study who’s results “belie the notion held by many American politicians that health care in this country is the best in the world. That may be true at a handful of pre-eminent medical centers, but it is hardly true for the care provided to a huge portion of the population.”

Sexy Vote

Here’s where the wall between Media and State comes down. Here’s where image makers are again Mayakovskiesque heros of the open pen, where propaganda takes on the aspect of forcing hope past the closed gates of the minor Caesars that seek to contain us: Celebs actually celebrating something profound.

Booze for Kids!

Sometimes the message is just so wrong! And so good! This is some of my progressive politics at its finest, true dirt and spin, but for the good team. Evil doesn’t have the entire lease on cool…. Un-unionized liquor stores cum supermarkets watch out.
